How to walk the triple spiral labyrinth.

There is no “right” or “wrong” way to walk the labyrinth. I recommend, before beginning your walk, to take a moment or two to set an intention. What do you hope to gain or achieve from this walking meditation?

Difference between a labyrinth and a maze.

Mazes are puzzles, which require you to be in your left-brain to analyze and make quick decisions and choices about where to go next. Labyrinths have one only one path (unicursal) that leads you to the centre and out again. The only decision or choice you must make is whether to enter or not. The labyrinth walk encourages you to be in your right brain, to connect to your Divine Source and to be receptive.

What to expect

I encourage you to be open to receiving, to clear your mind of worries and to really connect with the present moment and with each and every step you take. Take your time to find the pace your body wants to go and do what feels right for you. Be aware of what is happening inside of you, of messages such as words or images repeating or body sensations. Expect to receive messages, to FEEL, to be present and aware.

If you set the intention to find an answer to a question or solve a problem in your life: the walk in towards the centre will be about letting go, shedding the old, removing layers, to allow the new to come in. Don’t hold back tears, cries of anger or despair. Allow yourself to release what needs to be released.

At the centre, take some time to meditate, ask your Divine Source for help in this area of your life (and all areas). Give thanks then prepare to walk out. The journey out of the labyrinth is about renewal and rebirth. Allow yourself to relax, feel the moment and listen to your angels and guides. When you step out of the labyrinth, turn towards the centre and offer a prayer of gratitude, a “Namaste” or whatever you feel is appropriate for the moment.

What is the significance of a triple-spiral labyrinth?

When the decision was made to build a labyrinth, the task of researching the different types began. When we laid eyes on the triple-spiral, it called to us and we just knew it was the one we were meant to build.

The Triple Spiral (also known as the Triskele and the Spiral of Life) is rich in Celtic history, found on many ancient Irish stone carvings - most notably Newgrange in County Meath - which date back to 2500 BC.

Other things to know:

Your intention is an important part of the journey. Your walk is a personal experience and is often different than other people with you.  Some people experience deep healing, some people have profound, life-changing experiences, others have a beautiful enjoyable peaceful walk. Each time you walk is a different experience. Essentially, walking the labyrinth is a journey to your centre, coming back out into the world with a deeper understanding of who you are.
